Asks for an area of land for the house from Jesus College. Signed James Cowell.

The Bursar's answer (11th November) is missing but mentioned in Asher's letter of 16th November, in which he apologizes for having carried out repairs without prior college permission and stresses the low cost (4p; 4s; 4d) and absolute necessity of the refurbishments for the preservation of buildings, hoping that the Bursar will grant the full amount.

Pemberton, ChristopherA letter from James Cowell, curate at Horne, to the Master of Jesus College, stating that as the college prepares considerable property in the parish of Horne, he makes an application to write on behalf of the village school, for the purpose is £10 a year from the Justices of the Rector, who is himself in confinement. This sum is adequate to pay the salary of a suitable master. Seems inappropriate to raise funds from the parishioners. There is not a single gentleman's family in the Parish. Begs the college for help. Signed James Cowell.
Cowell, JamesLetter from Benjamin Wilson, curate at Fordham, to Rev. Dr. French, stating that there is no school in connection with the Church of England at Fordham, so that the Children of the poor are alienated from the Church by the education of dissenters. It is purposed therefore to erect a school in Fordham in union with the National Society on a site of land which Mr. Dunn Gardener Esq. intends to give to the trustees for the object. The vicar of the parish has given his name for a donation of £20, and if circumstances admit of an additional £30 next year with an annual allowance of £12. I hope to raise from my parishioners £100. These sums however are inadequate. Asks for an additional donation from Jesus College. Signed Benjamin Wilson.
