Document 1:
Letter from James Cowell, curate of Horne, to the Rev. Dr. French. Asks that now that Jesus College is involved in Horne, asks them to call their attention to another matter of no less importance, the school and the want of a residence for the clergymen. The living is ample. He was appointed Curate by the Bishop of Winchester. They cannot purchase somewhere as the assumptive Vicar has been many years in confinement. Asks for an area of land for the house from Jesus College. Signed James Cowell.

Begs to acknowledge with his thanks your letter stating that the college is kindly disposed to entertain the application for a site for a parsonage at Horne. It has given him given him great pleasure. Asks Dr. French to meet with him during his visit to Horne.
