Scope and content

A letter from James Cowell, curate at Horne, to the Master of Jesus College, stating that as the college prepares considerable property in the parish of Horne, he makes an application to write on behalf of the village school, for the purpose is £10 a year from the Justices of the Rector, who is himself in confinement. This sum is adequate to pay the salary of a suitable master. Seems inappropriate to raise funds from the parishioners. There is not a single gentleman's family in the Parish. Begs the college for help. Signed James Cowell.
