Wooden base made to display the Benin Bronze cockerel which was donated to the College in 1905 by George William Neville. Metal plaque on the front with a Latin inscription, translates as: “Georges William Neville gave to Jesus College this emblem of its founder which he himself had brought back from the ancient city of the Benins in Western Africa captured by the British forces in 1897.”

These were bought until smoking was no longer socially acceptable. Stopped in 1990s. Duncan McKie was Fellows Steward, keen on traditions and he maintained this one. President and retired in 1997.
