Scope and content

Two letters relating to the lease of the Half Moon Hotel, Southwark. The first addressed to Arthur Westmorland, written by Barnes & Bernard, outlines that an application has been made for the lease of the Half Moon Hotel by Peter and Jules Lavallee, two Swiss natives, recommended by the current tenant Louis Turian. The solicitors write that Turian will only consider handing the license over to "foreigners". The second letter is a copy of the letter of application, dated 13 December 1880, written by C. J. Orlon on behalf of the Lavallees, residing in Southwark.
