Scope and content
A copy of Bishop West's statutes written by Benjamin Newton, in a fine 18th century hand, with later notes by Dr Lynford Caryl and (in pencil) Dr Pearce. A dedicatory note states that Newton made this copy of the Statutes for the Master. The statutes conclude with the 1559 added statute, followed by a copy of the interpretation of the Statute "De Numero Sociorum" by King Charles I, 1635, and copies of letters and other documents concerning appointments to and tenure of fellowships, 1614-1638 (as in STA 1/3). There follow lists of counties, northern and southern, and finally a note by Dr Pearce about a difference between the Master and five Fellows over the election of two Fellows, 29 July 1791, with the Bishop of Ely's reply.
