Scope and content
My dear Sir,
I am sorry I cannot partake of the hospitality of the "Old House" on Friday next, having an engagement that will take me from home on Thursday, for a few days. Further I have to request of you, to make representation for me, to the Society at the Audit, that having had the Living of Beyton near to Bury offered to me by the Lord Chancellor, I am desirous of accepting it, as being tenable with those I now hold, tho' for my so doing a representation to Hinxton will be necessary, but which I trust, the circumstances of any case being known, will not be objected to by the College - in your and their hands then, I leave myself as to this business. Perhaps tho', for their information I may as well add, that Beyton is I believe one of the smallest agricultural parishes in the Kingdom, not exceeding 600 acres, and the gross income from it, to the Incumbent, I fear, not more than £170 per an[num], but still it is an object to me.
I am,
my dear Sir,
sincerely yours,
Townley Clarkson.
Hinxton, December 9th, 1829.
