Letter from Thomas Gatty to William French, written from Charterhouse Square. His understanding is that in a letter from the vice chancellor dated 3rd May 1827 he and the counsel believed that the meeting with Mr. Stocks should determine the course to be pursued. That course was then followed after Stocks dissented from the proposals made by the counsel. Doesn't believe this course should be followed and doesn't believe the vice-chancellor believes in it either. Provides various opinions about what course should be taken, including that the magistrates should describe themselves as acting for the town not the people of the town. Dr. Webb also believes this should be done. Includes copy of order passed at sessions 18th May 1827 relating to gaol bill.
