Scope and content

Letter from Michael Metcalf, manuscript, two folios (both recto & verso), dated 6 September 1980, thanking IS for his typescript and commenting upon several of the particulars: characterisation of Finland's "poorer and remoter parts"; use of the phrase "Viking power and wealth" apparently to comprehend Denmark, which "was a political state with a mature infrastructure" by 1000; comparison of the percentages from the Munkegaard hoard regionally with expected percentages [based on other hoards]; the extent to which the Munkegaard hoard was representative of the composition of the English currency at the end of the crux type; and [the lack of] English evidence for the demonetisation of the hand type.
