Scope and content

Letter from Jeffrey North, in manuscript, dated 12 January 1968, thanking IS for his letter and regretting that, due to some sort of breakdown in communication, he was unable to take his comments into full account for his booklet. JJN nevertheless responds to some of the comments, noting that he was writing for collectors and therefore focused on the classification of the more common coins. He says that he awaits the outcome of IS's research into class IX as foreshadowed in his paper on the Renfrew hoard, agrees with his remarks about Burns and refers to him frequently, and has been trying to tie the beginning of the Edward I Anglo-Gallic sterlings to the Bordeaux recoinage of 1305 in line with Burns' attribution.
