Scope and content
Letter from J. H. Gell to William French, written from the Cloisters, Westminster Abbey. Mentions that in 1821 French sent him a certificate for the election of Mr. Levy to a Craven exhibitionership. Levy has left for the United States and given a power of attorney to Messrs Harwood and Harmer of Liverpool to receive the £50 on his account whilst abroad. They have then requested Gell make the payment so he has asked the solicitors responsible for the trust, Messrs Blake, White and Singe (?) of Essex Street to see if he should pay the money. They said yes, but that he should inform the relevant people at the University about Levy's going abroad. Asks French if he could help with informing the relevant authorities.
