Scope and content

Mr Russel has let the low land farm to a respectable tenant. The weather the last fortnight has been particularly favourable and has permitted the construction of the granary up to the roof line. Frank Hopps had an auction of his remaining stock in trade which realised £127. He has been entirely crazy since French left from over excitement and drinking. So bad that he needed watching. Not the only case of madness. Wright, the son, who had just become curate at Nun Monkton, was fetched by a Keeper from the asylum. Mr Lascelles the vicar of L. Oneburne (?) has taken charge of the parish. Some of the frwaks in his madness were most ridiculous and very shocking. He undressed himself on the village green sending half his clothes home and half to the school masters son. He also went up to an old man and woman digging up potatoes before beating the man with a rake and throwing the potatoes at the woman. He order his church wardens to buy an organ lit with gas lighting. Wright's father talks of his being able to resume his post in November but the parish won't allow it. The parcel Baker's brother will give French when he sees him next.
