Scope and content
Letter from Francis Hill, in typescript, dated 1 November 1967, thanking IS for his letter and paper on St Martin and Lincoln. FH goes on to discuss a particular coin of his, which he describes as the Rashleigh specimen from the Grantley sale. He allows that it may date from after 918 but argues that the terminus ante quem ought to be 953, when there appears a bishop of Lindsey, whose mother church was probably "the Saxon minster of St Mary of Lincoln". He suggests that "the local owner of St Martin's church might have been the 'patron' of the St Martin moneyer".
