Scope and content

Letter from Eric Harris, in manuscript, partially dated 6 Jan[uary 1990?], to cover an enclosure (or enclosures) on gold nobles and expressing an intention to proceed to working on the groats. The four attachments, all undated and with the same incipit, are different versions (to different extents) of a text on the gold nobles and half-nobles, 1412-64, from the end of the reign of Henry IV to the beginning of the reign of Edward IV. The first (a) is one-sided only, listing a primary series of noble issues, a secondary series and a group 9; the second (b), with stains at the left-hand corners of the recto, is identical to the first but continues on the verso to cover half-nobles; the third (c) runs to four one-sided pages and is both a more detailed and more extensive version, with lengthier descriptions of the issues of nobles and half-nobles and a further section on groats, plus a few annotations and corrections; the fourth (d) appears to be a photocopy of the first two pages of attachment (c).
