Scope and content
Letter from Dr. William Webb to Rev R. Tatham, written from Litlington near Royston. He encloses two letter from Lord Palmerston concerning their petition against the tithe commutation bill. Wrote to Palmerston to acknowledge receipt but also to say that he objected strongly to the way the bill had been altered. Suggested that some changes to the bill could be injurious to the church (presumably in terms of funds). Asks Tatham to circulate Palmerston's letter to the Master of St. John's, the vice-chancellor and Dr. French. Mentions his waggon is at Cambridge.
The letter presumably came to be in French's papers as he was the last person to view Palmerston's letters.
