Letter from David Harkness, in typescript, single page, dated 13 September 1952, thanking IS for his letter and acknowledging that his idea of establishing the relative rarity of coins in the short- and long-cross series "would take years". He refers to the appeals that he has made for information and notes that he now has records of 3000 specimens but remains "a very long way from having sufficient evidence to justify anything in the nature of a comparison of the numerical rarity of the coins". He says that the evidence thus far compiled "seems to support the indications of scarcity or rarity given in the catalogue of the sale of L. A. Lawrence's specimens". There are annotations on the verso, consisting in what appears to be a list of eleven names (of collectors?), probably in Ian Stewart's hand, and what appear to be experiments, in pencil, in writing Ian Stewart's signature.
