Letter from D. Russell to William French, 22nd August 1846. Written from York. Thanks French for his attention on his application. He forwarded the reference to Dr. Plumptre. No appointment has yet been made, although Plumptre will be in York and will meet Russell. He did not think he could contact Mr. Calvert. Has discovered the Rev John Schackles of York has great influence with him so has asked Schackles if he can get Calvert's consent on his behalf. Hopes to send French a favourable report in due course. Weatherill the bricklayer has said there are some tiles off the pig cote as well as some other buildings. Pointing is also needed on the barn. Holgate wanted Weatherill but he refused as they weren't in the list of things Russell had already given Weatherill to do. They are necessary works but he expects the cost will be minimal.
