Letter from Chris Wren, in typescript, single page, dated 4 January 1993, with four attachments; in the letter, he apologises for not having responded earlier about the offer of a class VIIa coin of the moneyer Samuel (see below, attachment a) but explains that he temporarily misplaced the coin that he was giving in exchange and only just relocated it. He describes some of his recent acquisitions, including the Canterbury coins from Canwell hoard and from Wainfleet. He refers to one enclosure of a polaroid of what he believes may be a contemporary imitation, now in the Rotherham Museum, with a blundered legend, and another of what he describes as "a tooled fantasy piece". Neither of these enclosures appears to be associated with the letter, but there are other attachments (see below, attachment b-d) not specifically mentioned in the letter. The attachments include:
(a) two small photographic reproductions of the obverse and reverse of a short-cross coin of King Henry from Canterbury with the reverse inscription +SAMUVEL ON CAN with a small piece of paper with the manuscript label or note "Hocking 396"
(b) photograph of a group of eight short-cross coins, reverse only, mostly from Canterbury, including at least one with the inscription +SAMUVEL ON CAN
(c) index card with coin image attached of class VIc of Canterbury, moneyer IOHAN. ex Colchester
(d) index card with coin image attached, described as "false", moneyer SALEMUN. ex Colchester
