Scope and content

A bill from Emmanuel College, Cambridge, requesting half of the payment guaranteed by Cambridge for lectures for the Civil Service Open Competition. It reads as follows:
' Lectures for Civil Service Open Competition. Dear Sir, The Executive Committee will be much obliged if you will pay one half of the amount guaranteed by your College toward the expenses of the above named Lectures. It is expected that this contribution will more than cover any deficit arising from the working of the scheme during the first year. If any Colleges prefer to pay at once the whole of the guarantee for the first year, the balance will be credited to them for use in subsequent years. Payments should be made to the account of the Civil Service Lectures' Association at Barclay's Bank (Mortlock's Branch) Cambridge. Yours very faithfully, W. CHAWNER, Secretary. The amount guaranteed by your College for the year is £15.'
