Letter from W. Hilton to Dr. French thanking him for the favour but asserting that the annual rent of the land, the expense of labour, difficulties of approach to the land due to a bad road, stagnated water, danger of the sea, unhealthy situation, dread of extra wall rates etc. depreciate the value of the land. The Commissioners were necessitated last year to borrow £300. Asks for the college to set up a favourable fine for the renewal of the Lease. Sent from Danbury.

Letter to the Revd Dr French, from London. Details college investments and stock to the sum of £9105 18s 7d.
We were in course favoured with your letter and agreeably to your directions we have invested £11 1s 9d in Consols this day in the name of the College which purchased £12 15s 7d of stock. The value of £200 invested in Consols at the opening price of In_ry last would have been equivalent to £232.18 stock to the dio. in which has not been invested and we have now added at to the former sum of £9105 18s 7d so that the accruing dividends with be on £9338.16.7 and on £752.1.6. We have applied to the Chancery Office respecting the div. alluded to, and previously to procuring a Power they require the "Order of Court" which we should suppose is in the hands of the solicitor in the Courts.
