"De Libro Nigro Pergamen": a draft for a history of the University, commencing with a discussion of authorities, the Black Parchment Book and Hare's Collection. In the hand of Dr Charles Ashton, and a companion volume to JCGB/5/1/1.

Letter from Cambridge, expressing pleasure that the affair with Mr Baghott has been brought to a conclusion and reportig that sums of money have been or will be sent.. Emphasizing the importance of using the proper style of the College in legal documents.

Includes notebook containing "miscellaneous remarks on diverse passages in various authors", c. 1750; "A catalogue of some books to be given to Jesus College Library, Cambridge" by the late Dr Ashton, c. 1750; Also various other miscellaneous notes. Mostly in the same hand although possibly by Frederick Keller rather than by Charles Ashton.

Flyleaf has title: "Collectanea ad procancellarii officium spectantia. An. 1702. C. A.". It contains a copy of the University's statutes of 1570, wth annotations by the transcriber, Dr Charles Ashton (Master 1701-52). JCGB/5/1/2 is a companion volume.
