IS is pleased that SS has had the opportunity to consider JL's ideas but he appreciates that SS wishes to leave his text as it is. The corrections will be incorporated into his paper, together with a note to the effect that the text was completed in mid-1978. IS includes an enclosure of his essay on Anglo-Saxon gold and states that he will be pleased to receive copies of papers by SS.

He apologises that GP must carry the burden of delivering the volume to press but assures him that it be a great relief once it is done. He also notes that the titles are articles in French have sometimes been translated in the notes and will require correcting to the original form. In closing, he thanks FD for such an interesting contribution in honour of their friend, Philip Grierson.
