Academic Squares

Three academic squares that came out of the rooms of Peter Glazebrook.

(1) Oxford academic square with gold trim. This belonged to Peter Glazebrook. Made by Shepperd &Woodward, 109/10 High Street, Oxford
(2) Cambridge academic square. Name tag inside 'Beveridge'.Made by A. G. Almond Ltd, Cambridge
(3) Cambridge Academic Square. Made by Ryder and Amies, Cambridge

College crested globular ashtray with brass top. Further stamp on the bottom of the object suggests that it was marketed by Bacon Brothers, Cambridge est 1805

Base for Benin Bronze

Wooden base made to display the Benin Bronze cockerel which was donated to the College in 1905 by George William Neville. Metal plaque on the front with a Latin inscription, translates as: “Georges William Neville gave to Jesus College this emblem of its founder which he himself had brought back from the ancient city of the Benins in Western Africa captured by the British forces in 1897.”

Summer blazer of the Amalgamated Clubs. White with narrow red and black stripes. Black cock on a red ball over gold crown, with black letters J.C.A.C. under on the breast pocket. Brass buttons. Matching scarf. Originally owned by Percy Gardner-Smith and then given to Michael Waring.

Clay Pipe

Clay pipe complete with red tip.

Example of pipe given to attendees of College feasts where pipes and jars of tobacco were bought from the tobacconist on the corner of Rose Crescent. These were bought until smoking was no longer socially acceptable. Stopped in 1990s. Duncan McKie was Fellows Steward, keen on traditions and he maintained this one. President and retired in 1997.

Clock Winding Mechanism Part

Part of the Chapel clock’s winding mechanism called a sun and moon maintainer. Maintaining power allows a clock to keep power supplied to it, whilst the barrel with the driving weight is being wound back up.

Cockerel Ink Stamp

Boxed wooden cockerel designed stamp. The box has a picture of a button and the words 'Tender Buttons 143 E.62 St. NYC 10021'. The wooden block has the words '1987 PSX Petaluma, CA'.

Commemorative Coins (Rustat Dinner)

Presentation coins in individual boxes given to attendees at the end of the Rustat Feast. The coins have the Queen's head on one side and different symbols and wording on the other commemorating: the 80th birthday of The Queen Mother, 4th August 1980; Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee, 1977; 25th anniversary of the marriage of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, 1947-1972

Copper Saucepan Lids

Three copper saucepan lids (?) that would have been used in the College kitchens. Each engraved with either Jesus College Cambridge or Jesus College kitchen. Graduated sizes - 15cm, 18.5cm and 19.5cm diameters.

Includes: large oval serving plate, 41cm long; small oval plate, 26cm long; large round plate, 25.5cm diameter; medium plate, 23cm diameter; small plate, 18cm diameter; oval serving bowl with lid, 28cm long; round serving bowl with lid, 20.5cm diameter; round serving bowl divided into two compartments, 20.5cm diameter; round serving bowl on stand, 18.5cm diameter; round serving plate on stand, 22.5cm diameter; large sauce boat; small sauce boat.
