        History

        He attended the Kent School followed by a year as a prefect at Brighton College in Brighton, England, with the English Speaking Union. He graduated from Yale University as a member of the Class of 1967.

        He served as a captain in the U.S. Army and did tours in both South Korea and South Vietnam. He founded and was president of Buttonwood Securities investment firm for 17 years and more recently was an executive director of investments at CIBC Oppenheimer in Boston.

        Mr. Towle is survived by a son, Sidney III; two daughters, Caroline Closuit and Stephanie; a sister, Diana Reardon; a nephew, Max Jallifier; a brother, Alexis; and a grandchild, Christopher Closuit.
