Scope and content
A copy of Bishop West's statutes in the hand of Dr French (Master 1820-49), with markings in red ink, corrections in black ink and annotations in pencil. At the end is a note of 15 Mar. 1827 attesting that the copy agrees with the best known copy of the statutes (kept in the college library), 1820-1827.
Also loose papers found inside front cover. One noting what was sent with a petition [to the Bishop of Ely], which apparently included this volume (It can be deduced that this relates to the petition dated 2 Dec. 1841).
The other note also found inside the front cover, probably in Dr William French's hand, noting a decree about priority among the Fellows, 15 Feb. 1619/20.
Amendment of the College statute. Draft statute drawn up by the Bishop of Ely (Bowyer Edward Sparke) removing the restriction on election of Fellows, limiting the choice to a candidate from the northern and southern counties alternately, 1827; Draft petition by the College to the crown to accept the Bishop's amendment, 1827; Correspondence about the amendment, 1827; Copy of Royal warrant of George IV amending the statutes, 1827; Two copies on vellum of Sparke's amendment to the statutes, 7th January 1828; Letters from the absent Fellows consenting to the setting up of a committee to consider the revisions of the statutes, 1837; Rough notes of College accounts, 1837; Four notebooks containing rough drafts of the petition to the Queen to allow the Bishop of Ely to amend the statutes, 1837;
