Scope and content

Correspondence file regarding negotiations between the College and the Clergy Training School over a new building which would back on to the houses in Malcolm Street. The College objected to this as it was within 35 feet of the back of the houses and would affect their right to light and air. The C.T.S. consulted a lawyer and surveyor and were advised that legally the College couldn’t prevent them from building against the boundary of the Malcolm Street property. They proposed to alter the building to two stories and covenant not to build anymore on the western side in return for the College agreeing to sell the site between All Saints Church and the property of the C. T. S. for no more than £500. File also includes a sketch plan showing the relative position and height of the proposed building; valuation of the land between the school and All Saints Church and vicarage; and a draft proposal from the College for the sale of the land.
