Letter of Marion Archibald with attachments:
(a) letter from Marion Archibald, in manuscript, four pages on two folios, dated 17 August 1973, in response to a card from IS (see the first attachment (b) below); in the letter, MMA says that she will provide a note about Hartford jointly with JPCK [i.e. John Kent] as they did the hoard together. She is interested to learn of IS's lead piece of a normal Wm II type V, Thetford, Godric, supposing it to be a contemporary forgery and adding that the BM has a similar piece of Wm II type II ex [Charles] Roach Smith. She comments upon a photograph of IS's Wm I type V, saying that it isn't from the same obverse die as BMC 308 and allowing that Cricklade is a possiblity as the mint but questioning his reading of the legend. She suggests reading the mint signature as Bristol.
(b) card from Ian Stewart to Marion Archibald, in manuscript, undated, saying that he will soon send his paper on Henry VII to the Numismatic Chronicle and asking whether he should add an appendix on "The 1964 Hartford (Hunts.) Hoard" by M. M. Archibald. He asks if they are are aiming to insert the Colchester paper in the next BNJ. He then asks about any record in the BM of a Wm II type V, Thetford, Godric, noting that he has a lead piece of this sort. He also asks about a Wm I type V fragment, of which he mentions a photograph, and wonders about the possible mint.
(c) paper entitled "An enigmatic two-stars penny of William I", unattributed [by IS?], in typescript, one page, with additions and corrections.
