Scope and content
Written from Bramstone, Grantham. Not sure if the Dean at Ely has received any information relating the proceeding of the Committee in London but he has transcribed a circular from Dr. Spry which he intended to take with him to the Chapter. Asks if French could read it at the meeting if no communication is received from London. Strongly feels the Chapter should be against clauses 11-20 of the plurality bill which place the Bishops in subordination to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, and also clauses 3 and 29 which affect those holding Cathedral offices. No hurry as the bill seems indefinitely postponed. Copies of circulars from J. H. Spry, the deputy chairman, written from 15 Suffolk Street, Pall Mall East, 17th March 1838 are then written.
