Scope and content
Written from Old Palace Yard. Thought that French and some other Cambridge friends would be interested to see details and provisions for Lord Nugent's bill for the emancipation of English Roman Catholics and so sent him two copies of the bill in the post. Bankes says he will oppose it at every stage and feels French will also find much to object to. Describes possible areas he might concede on. Not sure about opening up the franchise to them saying it was a disastrous thing to have done in Ireland. The commission on the Irish Tithe Commission is to meet tonight. Bankes lists his opinions with that. Received a letter from Dr. Webb at Litlington concerning where best to vote. The Master and Fellows at Corpus had invited him to their feast on Wednesday. Not sure if the Chancellor will be in London at the time of the commencement but saw him a few days earlier at the Trinity anniversary dinner.
