Scope and content
Apologises for miscommunication with regard French's luggage. They assumed it was to be delivered from Cambridge to London in the usual way by waggon and to be at Nine Elms for 8 o'clock on Tuesday morning. All their wagons go upon the rail at Stortford. The goods weighed 13lb and they charged £2 12s for transport, the remaining 15s for porterage from the Brick Lane to the Nine Elms station (the latter charge being regulated by Act of Parliament). The inconvenience French has experienced is due to the late running of the train into London. Offers to pay some form of compensation for French's expenses trying to recover his luggage. Fragments of black wax seal.
