Letter from T. Dickes to William French. Acknowledges French had received a note from Brougham and that he himself had received a letter from Sparke. Mentions that the wall in the cloisters is finished from the Hall door to the corner. They had appointed a new gardener, 'the Grantchester man', who was the most promising of the applicants. He has been working hard in front court to the great pleasure of Perry and Fendall. Apparently has also enquired as to how this new gardener might do with waiting at table. Also mentions that Heathfield is engaged to be married and so another Fellowship might become vacant in Michaelmas. Says he hopes there is no alarm of cholera at Ely and that there had been some deaths from it at Bottisham.
