Scope and content

Letter from Stewart Lyon, in typescript, dated 13 October 1997, entitled "The suppressed Cnut hoard from Eastern England", bearing a note indicating that SL was "copying this to Hugh [Pagan], Mark [Blackburn] and Veronic [Smart]". The letter focuses on a parcel of 319 coins struck in the name Cnut as King of England (Rex Anglorum, r. 1016-1035) that were put up for sale in Stockholm in 1995 by the Swedish firm Myntgalleriet and consists in some deductions that may be drawn from the parcel. There are two attachments:
(a) Numismatic auction catalogue of the Swedish firm Myntgalleriet (Stockholm) sale 3 (20 May 1995), see esp. lots 434-751, with the bookplate of A. H. Balwin & Sons, Adelphi Terrace, London, on the from cover and, in manuscript, the notation "Cnut hoard", circled.
(b) Table of mints and weight ranges represented in the hoard, on page, in typescript, compiled by "SL" and dated 13 October 1997.
