Letter from Stewart Lyon, in typescript, two pages, dated 10 February 1999, entitled "Edgar circumscription cross – Hampshire mints", with two-page attachment, in typescript, same date. SL's letter follows up on a letter that he recently received from Marvin Lessen about "the supposed Hampshire hoard of Edgar" (cf. JCPP/Stewartby/1/1/LESSEN/1999/1). SL expresses concern about the CNG element of the parcel, which he suspects CNG "must have known was likely to be from a suppressed hoard", and notes that other coins from the parcel passed through Spink, Finn and Baldwin, which suggests that the hoard was "unearthed before the Treasure Act was passed" [i.e. 1996]. SL doesn't like the situation and wonders "whether there is anything that could or should be done about it". The attachment, likewise entitled "Edgar circumscription cross – Hampshire mints", is a table that lists thirty-one coins of Winchester and seven coins of Southampton with columns for moneyer, die types, obverse inscription, reverse inscription, source, weight and die axis for each.
