Letter from R. Birkett to William French, written from Kelloe near Durham. Birkett's brother is labouring under physical inability and so he is writing on his behalf. His brother has suffered from an attach of rheumatic gout which has affected his right hand so he can't write. His brother is appreciative of French's good opinion of him with regard the offer of the senior tutorship following Merry's marriage, an office which Birkett would be pleased to accept. However, he is aware his current disability will require temporary alternative arrangements to be put in place with regard tuition. Birkett's medical adviser assures him he should be able to travel by early October without inconvenience. Also sorry to hear that French has been unwell.
