Scope and content

Letter from Peter Woodhead, in manuscript, one folio (recto & verso), dated 29 May 1996, identifying the little coin that IS loaned him as a farthing, based on the fact that it is "perfectly intact" and "weighs 0.272g = 4.2 grains". The letter E, he says, suggests that the coin belongs to class G, but other characteristics are less helpful. He believes that the coin is late Edward III, "perhaps late treaty or post treaty, surely unpublished. He is retaining a photo of the coin for comparison with his own coins and has also prepared a polaroid photo for IS, which he encloses (but the photo is no longer with the letter).
