Scope and content
A letter from Peter Conze to Percy expressing what an honour it is to be asked to write a tribute on his retirement. He attributes Percy’s presence to their enriched memories of Henley and recalls a personal memory of Percy living up to the impression Tote Walker impressed upon them prior to meeting him. He recalls the talk he gave to the crew, encouraging them to remember why they had come and to do the best they could. He gives a count of the race, in which they reached the quarter finals and were beaten a deck length by a Harvard Lightweight Crew, and of how Percy consoled them in their disappointment. He expresses his thoughts on the wisdom received through years of rowing and coaching and of the lifelong friends Percy has made. He closes the letter by hoping that Percy will still be seen at Henley in the future.
