Scope and content

Letter from Michael Metcalf to Christopher Blunt with CEB's reply:
(a) letter from Michael Metcalf to Christopher Blunt, typescript, two pages on two folios (recto only), dated 1 December 1981, observing that CEB's joint paper with IS on Raienalt (i.e. Regnald) is contentious and expressing his belief that it therefore needs to be presented rather differently than it is at present. He says that further consultation with other referees is needed, and in whatever form the article ultimately takes, it will be necessary to give any replier(s) sufficient time to compose a rejoinder, exchange typescripts and at least agree on what the various parties involved are all disagreeing about. DMM gives CEB (and IS) licence to publish elsewhere, e.g. in their book, but he hopes that they will take his suggestion into account in a redraft, which he considers "a constructive response".
(b) letter from Christopher Blunt to Michael Metcalf, typescript, single page, dated 1 March 1982, indicating that he is redrafting his joint paper with IS "in the light of the helpful comments [...] received from various quarters". There is discussion of dating, the authors' over-reliance on [Murray L. R.] Beaven for dating, and DMM's suggestion to rely more on NHI [i.e. New History of Ireland?], which CEB has not seen. CEB says that he and IS are planning to re-submit their contribution for the NC 1983 and hope that he will publish his views on the subject in the same number. There is a manuscript note in the upper right corner that reads "Copy for BHIHS".
