Scope and content

Letter from Michael Metcalf, manuscript, one folio (recto & verso), dated 31 October 1990, expressing confidence that IS has hit the right tone regarding his comments "about Michael" [Dolley] but adding that he may wish to "underline the point that Belt was on the spot". MM observes that the paper isn't an easy read, noting that a tabular section contrasting Dolley's dates with his own would make it easier, and that the paper may be better placed in the BNJ rather than the Bulletin since historians and archaeologists will be able to reference it more easily. He comments on his recent trip to Germany and upcoming trip to Rome, and he concludes with news that he has just learned that he is to receive the Huntington Medal in New York.
