Letter from Mavis Mate, in typescript, dated 20 February 1967, noting that she read IS's articles on "Medieval die-output" and recently came across some information that he may find interesting. She mentions a Warden's Account (E 372/132 m. 2) with references to 47s. 3d. received for three and half dozen dies delivered to the bishop of Durham and three dozen and three dies delivered to the abbot of Bury St Edmunds at 7s. per dozen. The same account makes it clear that the terms cuneus and ferra are interchangeable and supports IS's theory that cuneus refers to a single die rather than a pair of dies.
