Scope and content

Letter from J. Proctor to William French, 16th August 1844. Written from Granby, Harrogate. Sorry to hear of French's health as he had hoped he would have been able to visit. Shenton is here as is Major Gordon and Captain Middleton. Gordon to be stationed imminently at Weedon. A pleasant gentleman who hopes to pay French a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Fendall with two sons and two daughters constitute an agreeable part of our party. Hasn't heard anything of Griffith. Understands from Archdale that he might expect to see him soon. The house is busy but many now take their own private apartments so the table isn't full at dinner or tea.
