Letter from J. P. Birkett to William French, written from Jesus College. Birkett mentioned in an earlier letter that Edleston was a candidate for the Librarianship and that he had asked Birkett to mention him to French. Birkett now introduces another candidate - Power, a former tutor at Trinity Hall. He is very popular amongst members of the Senate and will probably be elected if nominated by the Heads. The appointment committee will include Birkett, the vice provost of Kings, Aslett and Mills of Pembroke, Birkett's brother, J. Bunch, Hopkins and Leapingwell, Babington, Williamson and some others. Romilly also supports Power. Other candidates are Griffin of St. John's, Bright of Magdalene, J. J. Smith of Caius and Goodwin of Catharine Hall. He plans to be present at the Rustat Audit and examinations in Easter week. One of his best friends is to be married the same day as the examination so he hopes he doesn't need to be in Cambridge after all. Hopes that the air at Ryde agrees with French, Mrs French and their daughters.
