Scope and content

Letter from J. P. Birkett to William French. Encloses a letter from Mr. Spence concerning the parish of St. Clement's. Spence had heard from Colins that Coombe was willing to accept the living if the College would give it to him. Sheppard is a Fellow of Clare and Coombe a Fellow of St. John's, Coombe being a curate at Trumpington and Sheppard briefly incumbent at St. Edward's. Both are appointable, but Coombe is perhaps the more eligible. Will have to be content with £300 an acre for an undisclosed piece of land, but will consult Mr. Emson about this. Hodge is about to resign the Librarianship whilst Edleston of Trinity has asked if he could rely on French's vote as the replacement.
