Letter from J. P. Birkett to William French, written from Jesus College. Would have written sooner but wanted to garner further details of Mr. Dickes' death. He initially asked Mr. Randall and the Mr. Tom Fisher in the hope they would know who Dickes' closest family were. All he could find is that he had a niece who was married to an Englishman practicing as a barrister in the United States. A bedmaker mentioned that he had a sister living although they weren't on good terms. He did decide that a lead coffin for Dickes should be prepared. Went to the Vice-Chancellor with the usual notice of Dickes' death. Gibson has been very ill since going down and it is probably going to be necessary that Drake and Gibson go to visit French for the prupose of electing a president in the room of Mr. Dickes. Mr. Eade of Jesus College, French's nephew, took his MA degree.
