Letter from J. P. Birkett to William French, 11th October 1844. Written from Jesus College. Drake makes no difficulty accepting the Classical Lectureship, but Birkett says he now needs to find a Mathematical Lecturer. Cannot locate the Dean of Ely but has sent a letter to the Athenaeum Club in the hope it might reach him. On his return to Cambridge, Birkett shared the same coach with French's nephew Frederic.
