The letter provides cover for HEP's incomplete "Offa paper" and makes some explanatory remarks about the paper. The catalogue date of 1980 assigned to the letter here is very much uncertain. The attachment consists in a photocopy of a lengthy paper entitled "The coinage of Southern England 765-796: the evidence reviewed", 38 pages, undated, unattributed.
