Scope and content
Written from Winstone Rectory, Cirencester. Writes to say that the village she has settled in has become a refuge for horse and sheep stealers. She says there is scarcely a house from which some member has not been tried, transported and imprisoned, whilst two have been hung! Her first endeavours to help the people were met with threats and insolence. Her husband's hard work, however, has prevailed. There was no school but she and her husband got a government grant and built a school room with adjoining cottage for a mistress. However, the school building now needs work doing and work is also required to the church. She is writing to all people who she feels might be able to offer some assistance, having received some from the Dean of St. Asaph (who she has known since childhood), Earl Spencer and Lord Calthorpe.
