Scope and content
Photocopy of a letter from Frederick "Monty" Banks to Stewart Lyon, typescript, two pages on two folios (recto only), dated 19 October 1972, recalling his note in Seaby's Coin and Medal Bulletin in November 1967 setting out the broad background against which to consider the Cuerdale hoard. In the letter, he presents his hypothesis about the hoard's origin and purpose. In the upper margin of the first page, there is a manuscript note in CSSL's hand that reads: "Ian, Could we discuss this over lunch one day?" It is signed "Stewart" and dated 24 October.
