Scope and content
Written from Hollesley, Woodbridge. He encloses a letter from Mrs. Allan and as an old member of Pembroke, he asks French if he could prevail upon the Master and Fellows of Pembroke to give him the readership. Mrs. Allen knows he is thinking of resigning Hollesley to be nearer his Eye and Stradbroke friends. The Bishop didn't take the idea of his resignation very well. He remembers Dr. Ainslie who was his junior in College. Doesn't seem particularly taken with his position, calling it very dull with the sea being on one side and seven miles of heath on the other. He'd be delighted to get back to his old neighbourhood, even with a diminished income, for what is income without happiness?
