Agreeable to your inscription claims we this day forwarded to the Reverend Dr French at Jesus College Cambridge a box containing the six silver candlesticks, which we hope will arrive safe and get your approval on the other side. We beg to have your account of them. The payment of which can be made through any banker in town. We beg to solicit your further favours.

8th January 1790: 12 plain polished table spoons, £10 10s 0d; engraving inscriptions on the same, 6s 0d; 12 pairs silver-handled knives and forks, £13 13s 0d; engraving inscription on the same, 12s 0d; 2 pairs sauce boats, £16 9s 6d; engraving inscription on the same, 2s 0d.
24th May 1790: 12 mustard glasses, 15s 0d; mustard ladle, 5s 0d; 2 packing boxes, 2s 0d.
Total: £42 14 6d.

Costs include: 3 vases and ladles, £9 1s 4d; 6 shaped salts, £11 5s 0d; 6 French square salt ladles, £1 1s 0d; 3 silver castors, £6 6s 6d; repairing cruet frame and polishing 5s; engraving 9 Arms and 27 inscriptions on the above, £1 16s. Total £29 14s 10d.

Received 3 castors 14 oz 14 dwt; salver 12 oz 16 dwt; soup ladle 7oz 13 dwt; tankard 31oz 14 dwt. 66 oz 17 dwt at 5s/3d .: £17 10s 9d. Total £12 4s 1d.

21st February: 8 cut glass cruet £1 12s; packing box 2s. Total £13 18s 1d. Balance due from College £3 18s 1d.

Bronowski was due to present his paper on 'The Evolution of Complexity' but had to cancel his attendance due to a change in travel plans.

Also includes: a preliminary programme for the conference; a letter from Claude Nash (Massachusetts) about Bronowski's paper on 'The Evolution of Complexity' as delivered to the American Association for the Advancement of Science convention in Boston (Dec 1969); a typescript of "Remarks on Dr Bronowski's Address" (author unknown) about ['The Evolution of Complexity']; a leaflet about the 1970 Gordon Research Conference on 'Frontiers of Science'; a letter from Walter M Elsasser (Institute for Fluid Dynamics and Applied Mathematics, University of Maryland) discussing concepts in 'The Evolution of Complexity' and Elsasser's thoughts on the paper; a registration list and programme from the conference; and a "speaking engagement" information sheet [made for the file].
