Subjects include: the Institute possibly assuming greater responsibility for grants management from the Public Health Service of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (United States Government); charges for services from departments of the Salk Institute; travel expenses for Fellows working away from the Institute; a possible long-term loan for the Institute; a large bequest left to the Institute; regulation of salaries within the Institute; and a housing loan.

Also includes a letter from Basil O'Conner (President, The National Foundation) to Augustus Kinzel (President, Salk Institute) on the Institute's obligation to undertake a fund raising programme, and a report on 'Progress of Fund Raising at the Institute' (Dec 1965).

With memoranda from Presidents of the Institute sending financial statements to the Board of Trustees, an interim report of the Director to the Board of Trustees (Oct 1966), an agenda and papers to consider (many on finances and budgets) for the meeting of the Board of Trustees (Oct 1966), a report on fund raising for the Salk Institute, and a memorandum to Jonas Salk from Bronowski about the budget for scientific meetings.

Also includes a copy of a memorandum and financial forecast for the Salk Institute by H. E. White sent to Basil O'Connor (The National Foundation) describing the Salk Institute as in a "critical financial position", 1966. [H. E. White has been sent by O'Connor to report on the Institute's finances].
